All organisations involved in temporary works should appoint a ‘Designated Individual’. This person should be a director or senior manager.

They are responsible for establishing, implementing and maintaining a procedure for the control of temporary works (appropriate to the size, complexity and involvement of that organisation). They should ensure that any sub-contractors they use have adequate temporary works procedures and suitable skills, knowledge and experience. Our Designated Individual Training ensures that all senior managers who are tasked with their responsibility are fully prepared for the role and aware of their responsibilities.

Temporary Works Coordinator

Temporary Works Coordinator

The Principal Contractor should appoint a ‘Temporary Works Coordinator’, as early as possible (Supported by the appointed Designated Individual). The Temporary Works Coordinator has overall responsibility to ensure that all Temporary Works under their control are done so in accordance with the recommendations of BS 5975:2019 and their companies Temporary Works Procedure. Where Temporary Works Coordinator is appointed on behalf of the Principal Contractor, they will provide oversight of both their own, and contractors compliance to the requirements. 

The Two Day Temporary Works Coordinator course is designed to assist those on site who have responsibility for managing all forms of Temporary Works. The intensive course, is designed to give confidence to management and those who engage with contractors, to reach an assessed standard of knowledge around the principals of BS5975: 2019 & its implementation. The course gives emphasis throughout to the importance of communication, co-ordination, co-operation and competency (the '4Cs'), risk management, safety and business relations.

The course has been developed and is supported by a number of organisations: Temporary Works Forum, CECA, UKCG, HSE and FMB. The support of these organisations offers transferability of the course within industry.

Certification for this course is valid for 5 years. To remain certified in this area, you will need to retake the course before the expiry date.




Temporary Works Supervisor

Temporary Works Supervisor

Where appropriate, at the request of an appointed Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) or site Manager, an organisation may choose to appoint one or more Temporary Works Supervisors. Responsible (in respect of Temporary Works0 to the TWC, their role is to assist the TWC in the supervision and checks for compliance with the design; and recording of inspections of the temporary works.

The One Day Temporary Works Supervisor course is designed to give knowledge to give appointed Temporary Works Supervisors a greater understanding of the legal, health and safety & requirement stipulated within BS 5975:2019, allowing the TWS to to undertake the role competently.

The course has been developed and is supported by a number of organisations: Temporary Works Forum, CECA, UKCG, HSE and FMB. The support of these organisations offers transferability of the course within industry.
